Welcome

On behalf of the Heritage Days’ Advisory Board, we would like to welcome you to this, our 30th annual festival.  This is a special anniversary and we have some really exciting events planned for you.

As first-time chair, in 2008, I am fortunate to work with an enthusiastic group of volunteers, who work tirelessly to bring this event together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their dedication and hard work.

Our festival is able to continue because of the considerable support of local service groups and our generous sponsors, to whom we are especially grateful.

In 2007 school children were actively involved in the rich heritage of Ancaster with a creative writing and art contest. We received hundreds of entries, making it very difficult for the committee to choose a winner. Along with having their entries published in this supplement, the top three contestants rode a special float in the Saturday morning parade.  This newly established tradition will continue in 2008 with some new twists – so kids stay tuned, we will see you soon to tell you all about this year’s contest.

Also – first time ever – there will be a Soap Box Derby for kids 8 to 14 immediately after the Parade!!!  Stay tuned as details will follow.

Plan to spend time with us by attending the various events of Heritage Days. The Old Mill race will kick off our five-day celebration on June 10, with so much more to follow - the Tastes of Ancaster,  the Fieldcote Museum Soiree, the annual parade, lots of good food along the Parade route, the Craft show, the Antique Car show, Kids World, the Teen Scene – Battle of the Bands, the Strawberry Social and of course the Landmart Homes Fireworks display which will be better than ever this year. There is something for the entire family to enjoy.

Have a wonderful time at Heritage Days 2008 and a Safe and Happy Summer!

- Mary Ann Leach, Chair
