2010 Ancaster Heritage Days Parade Marshall
Meet Our 2010 Parade Marshall!
In 1979, a local merchant, Bette Fraser, and her friend Ann Sloat planned and presented the first Ancaster Heritage Days! Here we are 31 years later and the Ancaster Heritage Days committee is delighted that Ann Sloat has agreed to be the Parade Marshall.
Ann is a graduate of the Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating married her husband Don and moved to Ancaster where she raised six children!
Ann started on the road to her political career by becoming a school trustee member for 9 years and later Chairman of the Wentworth County Board of Education from 1971-1972. She was elected Mayor of Ancaster and a member of the Hamilton Wentworth Regional Council on October 1st, 1973 and was reelected for five terms as Mayor until 1984.

Her extensive career consisted of membership to the following committees:
- a member of the Hamilton Wentworth Board of Commissioners of Police where she served as Vice Chairman for 5 years;
- member of the Board of Governors for Mohawk College from 1975 to 1979;
- Chairman, Special Committee of Health; Member of the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority and Wentworth Library Board.
- Ann served as Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor for the Town of Ancaster from 1985 to 2000.
- She was awarded the Woman of the Year for Politics in 1996.
An important aspect of her retirement includes her family, friends and love of reading!
We are proud to have you as our 2010 Marshall Ann!
