Ancaster Heritage Days, Parade Marshall 2011

Parade Marshall, Murray Ferguson

Twice nominated for Ancaster Citizen of the Year, Murray’s actvities as a volunteer are widely known throughout the community. Murray completed 3 years as a Junior Director

of the Ancaster Agricultural Society, and five 3 year terms as a Director (a total of 18 years as a Director). He was President in 1974. He received his life membership in 1993, and his Service Diploma in 1986. Murray was a successful dairy farmer for twenty years and was the Outstanding Young Farmer for Canada in 1986, and the Farmer of the Year for Hamilton Wentworth in 1987. He was Hamilton-Wentworth Junior Farmer of the Year in 1985. Murray was Chairman of the traffic committee at the fair from 1975 – 2000. Murray was also the recipient of the Joe Fletcher Memorial Award for Citizen of the year in 1997.

Murray FergusonIn 2006 Murray received his 50+ years of volunteering with the Ancaster Fair Service Pin from the Ministry of Citizenship. Murray was a member of the Ancaster Chamber of Commerce and a Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow. Murray owns and operates a small business which he established and today employs 18 people. He has lived his entire

life in Ancaster and is happily married to Anne. Anne and Murray have three children, Scott who is married to Christine and their three children, Mark, Eric and Jessica. Next is Jillian and then Brad.

Murray served two terms of office for the City of Hamilton and prior to that was an Ancaster Councillor for 2 terms. He was also involved in many community activities including the Ancaster Heritage and Fieldcote Museum, Ancaster Senior Achievement Centre, Ancaster Heritage Days and the Ancaster Village Core Advisory Committee. He is most proud of the Ancaster Community Committee which he established to provide community input through his first term of office. This model was well received during both his terms on Council.

Priorities during his final term of office included getting the budget under control; and continuing to work with the new governance to make the City of Hamilton a better place to live, work and play.

We are proud to have you as our 2011 Marshall!
