Welcome

Ancaster Heritage Days, 2011

On behalf of the Ancaster Heritage Days Committee, I would like to welcome everyone to this, our 33rd annual Heritage Days Festival.

This year we have a very special addition to Heritage Days. You will find an encampment of troops and support personnel from the War of 1812, camped on Wilson Street! Back in the day troops converged at encampments in the Ancaster area on their way down to the Niagara Peninsula. Some of them (re-enactors of course!) will be joining us for Heritage Days. You may even meet some of them while strolling in our other venues or up and down Wilson Street throughout the day on Saturday.

As always our parade will provide lots of entertainment. I know I always look forward to the bands! Committee members Rick MacKenzie and Libby Knapp make the parade a little better each year.

KidsWorld has become one of our favorite venues, but Tammy Quinn has managed to make it even better and more exciting for the 3 to 11 age group. Please don’t miss it.

And everyone’s perennial favorite – the Soap Box Derby is back. Dads, start building those cars now! The Derby is always highly competitive and really entertaining. Scott Rastin and Carly Longley spare no effort to ensure that it is more exciting each year; this year they will include an Adult Race as well as the Kid’s!

We will bring back the Lumberjack show this year, and we will have all our old favorites like the Strawberry Social, lots of food, and all topped off by our fantastic Fireworks display.

Don’t forget that Heritage Days is a week long event- starting with the Ancaster Mill Race on June 7, the Ancaster Community Services Golf Tournament on June 8, The Tastes of Ancaster on June 9, and, of course, Parade Days on June 11th.

I hope to see you all have a great time at Heritage Days 2011, and a safe and fun-filled summer.
